The following was taken from the Westford League of Women Voters newsletter. Email news to [email protected].

Charter School Consensus Meeting Scheduled for Jan. 22
Sharpen your pencils and get out your books to study up for our consensus meeting on charter schools on Sunday, Jan. 22. The meeting will be held in the Card Room of the Cameron Senior Center, 20 Pleasant Street, Westford, from 1 to 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

The meeting will have a short presentation on the basics of charter schools, before diving into discussions of the eleven questions generated by the State League. League members will lead the discussion for each question, and all members present have the opportunity to discuss the question, and then try to come to a consensus by answering yes, no, or no consensus for each question.

The questions, background materials, and information on the consensus process are all available on the State LWV website. Any reading you are able to do ahead of the meeting will contribute to the overall discussion.

We look forward to a lively discussion! This is a great opportunity to learn more about charter schools, and participate in the League’s consensus process. All members’ voices are important in this process. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday, Jan. 22.

LWV Steering Committee Meeting, Jan. 12, 7:30 p.m.
The next LWV Steering Committee meeting will be held on Thursday, January 12 at 7:30 p.m. We will meet in a room in Roudenbush Community Center – check the sign at the front door for the exact location that evening. All members or potential members are welcome to join us as we plan out activities for the winter season. We hope to see you there!

“How Westford Works” Book Project
Do you want to learn more about how Westford town government works? Do you sometimes wonder how all the town committees, boards, departments and Town Meeting fit together? Here’s a great opportunity to find out! The League is looking for help in producing the third volume of our Town Government series. Inspired by the “How Westford Works” event held last year, this book builds on the “Guide to Town Meeting” and the “Guide to Running for Local Office.” It will discuss how town government works in Westford, presenting in one easy-to-read document all the varied material that is scattered across many websites and publications. If you are interested in working with other League members on this project, please let us know! Contributors, proofreaders and ideas for topics to be included are all welcome.

Women’s March Being Held in Boston and D.C., Jan. 21
The Westford LWV would like to let its members know about an opportunity to participate in the upcoming Woman’s March on Washington. Although the national LWV will not be officially participating in the march, League members can of course participate as individuals as they see fit. If you are interested in participating in the Washington D.C. march, information on the Massachusetts Chapter can be found online. If you are interested in joining with other League members for the Boston March, please contact the League at [email protected]. We can try to help coordinate carpools or connect you with other League members who are interested in attending. Information on the Boston march can be found on Facebook or their website. Both events will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21. Locations and times can be found on the individual websites.
