Luke Dillon, a ninth-grader at Westford Academy is wheelchair-bound due to Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a degenerative muscular disease. Luke plays on a soccer team with other wheelchair-bound players. To be competitive, he needed a special wheelchair that would allow him to pivot and pass the ball at the same pace as the other players. The Strike Force Power Wheelchair has a base price of more than $7,000. WA Principal James Antonelli spearheaded an effort to raise the funds for the chair. The Westford Charitable Foundation, Westford resident Jim Geraghty, the Orofino Family, the Guthrie Family and the Kelly Family Foundation, all reached out to help, according to Antonelli. Below is a letter of thanks from the Dillon Family.
Dear Editor:
You have given us a first class example of fulfilling the spirit of the season. All of you have proved to be another example of what makes Westford the beautiful community that it is.
These words are few and seem insufficient to express the enormity of our gratitude for what the members of our community have done for our son. We are extremely grateful for this generosity and kindness and plan to follow this example in what we can do to contribute in turn. –The Dillons, Ward Hill Road
