Tom Clay knows how to pull a team together and make it to the finish line. Whether during his time as a captain in the U.S. Army leading Air Assault units in Korea or Airborne Ranger reconnaissance units at Fort Bragg, or as the CEO of cutting-edge technology companies, Clay uses his common sense leadership skills to succeed.

Today, Clay wants to put those skills to work for Westford, announcing his candidacy for Westford Board of Selectmen. Clay and his wife Sara moved to Westford 15 years ago to be part of a strong community with excellent schools – a place to raise their three daughters, now ages 10, 15, and 17.

Clay said he wants to help shape the changes facing the town and build a strategy for continued success.

“Building a vision is a team sport and we need to understand what balance of preservation, smart economic development and strong community services is right for Westford over the long-term,” he said.

Clay knows education is the backbone of a community and, as a Westford School Committee member, continually pushes innovation to support student success.

“Westford has one of the best school systems in Massachusetts and the U.S. We have to continually improve and innovate to stay on top,” Clay said.

As a Westford selectman, Clay said he will continue to dig into local issues by listening and understanding what the residents want. He has solved tough problems. He said he believes he has the vision and experience to gather the facts and seize new opportunities.

Westford’s success comes from its residents, its businesses and its staff pulling the best ideas together and moving forward together as one town and one community, Clay noted.
