Featured Staff Book Pick: Consider the Birds: A Provocative Guide to Birds of the Bibleā€ by Debbie Blue, reviewed by Jean Butler. A Pastor of a church in St. Paul, Minnesota, and a bird watcher on her farm outside the city, Blue has found a unique perspective from which to ponder both the character of birds we think we know and the hidden subtext of familiar biblical stories. The bird lore alone will have you reading aloud to anyone in the vicinity. Baby pelicans faint after feeding. A vulture collided with an airliner at 37,900 feet. Chairman Mao villainized the house sparrow in his Four Pests Campaign (along with rats, flies, and mosquitoes),and mobilized Chinese citizens of all ages to exterminate them, resulting in enormous crop losses from insect pests, contributing to the Great Famine that cost 30 million lives.

Any book that collects raves from a fan base as diverse as the wildly unorthodox Rev. Nadia Bolz-Webber to environmentalist Bill McKibben has got to be a lively and engaging read.
