Vigil in Westford Common will Honor Memory of Kansas Gunshot Victim

WHEN: Sunday, March 12, 6:30 TO 7:30 p.m.

WHERE: Town Common, across from the J.V. Fletcher Library, 50 Main St., Westford (Alternate location:  First Parish Church United)

Westford stands in solidarity against hate, say the organizers of a planned vigil on Sunday, March 12.

Members of the Westford community will gather to honor the life and memory of Srinivas Kuchibhotla, an Indian engineer who was allegedly shot and killed by Adam Purinton, 51, on Feb. 22. Kuchibhotla was having a drink with his friend Alok Madasani, who was wounded in the encounter.

The pair were inside Austins Bar & Grill in Olathe, Kansas.

Ian Grillot, who tried to intervene, was also shot.  The perpetrator has been charged with murder and attempted murder and the incident is under investigation as a hate crime.

The community event is sponsored by Indivisible Westford and one of its members, Padma Sonti.  Community members are welcome to bring flashlights or battery-operated candles. Voluntary donations to the ACLU will also be accepted.
