Dozens attended a festival of colors on the town Common, July 29.

Coordinated by the non-profit GVW School Ltd., Westford ColorFest is a celebration of love, humanity and nature, said organizers.

The event offered games, music, dance, food and an opportunity to play with colors by throwing powders on each other or in the air.

The colors symbolize various aspects of our life and nature. Traditionally four main colors are used.

  • Red – Love, Fertility and Purity
  • Blue – Calm and Sedateness
  • Green – Vitality, Spring and New Beginning
  • Yellow – Pious Feeling

This event is based on the Indian festival of colors, celebrated in India across the country for hundreds of years. People of all ages from all cultures and religions celebrate it, according to resident Ketan Dave, a key organizer. After three or four years as a private event, ColorFest was sanctioned by the town this year and held in a public space.
