Editor’s Note: Westford Academy student Varshini Ramanathan, co-managing editor of the school’s publication, the Ghoswriter, wrote this Dec. 12 article on the town’s evolving crew program that underwent significant changes this fall.

At the Nov. 28 selectmen’s meeting, Town Manager Jodi Ross estimated the program was carrying a deficit of $70K.

“What’s happening is we have delved into the Recreation Department’s budget. It’s an enterprise fund,” said Ross. “The revenues that come in pay the expenses for the program. And what we determined is the crew program was in a position of a $70,000 deficit.”
