State Rep. James Arciero recently welcomed a student from Westford Academy to the State House for the 71st annual State Government Day.

This event allows high school students from across the Commonwealth to gather at the state capitol to learn about becoming legislators, judges and executive officials for the day.  Representing Westford Academy was senior Kathleen McCarthy who was accompanied by social studies teacher Heather Carney.

Sponsored by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the program teaches young people about the structure of state government, the legislative and judicial process, and to gain an understanding and appreciation of the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.

Following the official program, Arciero gave the Westford delegation a tour of the House Chamber and State House.
