People from across the Merrimack Valley and beyond will gather outside Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell on Sunday to support local patients and families coping with cancer at the 19th annual TeamWalk for CancerCare.

TeamWalk has grown to become the largest single-day fundraiser in the Merrimack Valley.

Many of the participants gather in teams and don T-shirts for loved ones as they walk the 3-mile or 6-mile route through historic downtown Lowell and along its river ways.

All funds raised directly support patients at the Cancer Center at Lowell General Hospital and those fighting cancer throughout the Merrimack Valley. The contributions to TeamWalk provide transportation to and from treatments, support groups and services, wigs, select medication for those in need, and many health and wellness programs.

Registration starts at 7:30 a.m., leading up to opening ceremonies to pre-walk ceremonies at 8:45 a.m. and the start of the 6-mile walk at 9 a.m. An opening ceremony will also precede the start of the 3-mile walk at 10 a.m.

Participants will enjoy coffee and donuts from Dunkin Donuts supplied by presenting sponsor Aide Conway before the walk, and lunch provided by Sal’s Pizza, Cobblestones of Lowell and several other local food vendors afterward.

It’s not too late to join the fun or contribute to the cause. To sign up or make a donation, residents can visit www.teamwalk.org. Donations may also be hand-delivered or mailed to TeamWalk for CancerCare, c/o Lowell General Hospital, 295 Varnum Avenue, Lowell, MA 01854.
