The Boston Pops are performing their 2018 Holiday Pops concert on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 2:30 p.m. at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium. Residents can join the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra with Conductor Keith Lockhart as they perform their signature Sleigh Ride, and other holiday classics, with new arrangements of seasonal favorites. Did you know that in 1659, Massachusetts banned the celebration of Christmas? Residents can find out more on Thursday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. when the J.V. Fletcher Library presents “Christmas Traditions in Boston” with author Anthony Sammarco. Sammarco will outline the celebration of Christmas over two centuries, from the Puritans to the mid-19th century introduction of the Christmas tree. Admission is free.
