Expanding Digital Collections with Overdrive RLA: If you are a fan of downloading e-books and audiobooks through our Overdrive collection, you will be thrilled to know that you now have access to Overdrive collections to other Consortium libraries throughout Massachusetts. The Merrimack Valley Consortium is now part of a Reciprocal Lending Agreement that allows MVLC patrons (including Westford) to borrow titles from the Overdrive collections at the Boston Public Library, Minuteman Library Network, and many other MA Library Consortiums. You can access these collections through the Overdrive App, Libby App, or the MVLC Overdrive homepage by clicking on the “Add a Library” feature. Ukulele Strum Along: Saturday, April 27 at 2 p.m. Learn to play by playing! Focusing on 2 and 3 chord songs, this program is for the beginner ukulele player who wants to practice and play music with others. Singing is encouraged. Ukuleles available to borrow, songs projected onto a screen so no music stands or books necessary. This program is open to adults and teens. Nuclear Security in the 21st Century: Monday, April 29 at 6:30 p.m. Nuclear weapons have not gone away, and the Trump administration has brought a new urgency to them. The New Start Treaty with Russia is up for renewal in 2021, a summit with Kim Jong-un occurred to discuss denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula, and President Trump decertified the Obama nuclear deal with Iran. Cuba and the “Last” Baseball Season with author José Ramírez: Thursday, May 2 at 7 p.m. After the Castro regime abolished professional baseball in 1961, young Cuban players had a choice: leave family, friends and a beloved homeland, knowing they may never see them again, to play professionally — or stay home and pursue a different and uncertain way of life. Adult Nonfiction Book Club: Tuesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. Is truth stranger than fiction? Is it more entertaining? Find out in the Adult Nonfiction Book Club. Middle School Book Club (Stony Brook): Wednesday, May 8 at 2 p.m. The library book club is open to Stony Brook Middle School teens in grades 6 to 8. Students actively participate in book discussion and hands-on activities once a month until May 2018 at the Stony Brook Middle School. This Month we read Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend. Teen & Tween Advisory Board Meeting: Saturday, May 11 at 3 p.m. Join the Library’s Teen and Tween Advisory Board and provide input for our Teen and Tween Summer Reading Program and support to the young adult librarian. No experience necessary, but you must be in grades 6 and up and live in Westford, MA or your parent must be a member of the Friends of the Library. The meeting(s) will be held in the Children’s Story Hour Room. This is a free, drop-in event. Registration not required.
Knitting Group: Mon., May 13 at 3 p.m. Do you enjoy knitting? Our informal knitting group meets in the Mary Atwood Room on the second Monday of every month from 3 to 5 p.m. AND the fourth Monday of every month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Please be aware that we will not be meeting on the fourth Monday in May due to the Memorial Day holiday.
