The Friends of the J. V. Library, Inc. June Book Sale is on the horizon: Friday, June 7, Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9. A Friends Members Only Sale will be held on Friday from 6:30 to 9 p.m.  A Friends membership (which may be purchased at the door) is necessary for attending the Members Only Sale.  The entire public is invited to the all day Saturday sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and to the Sunday half-price extravaganza sale from 2 to 4 p.m. The June Book Sale offers the perfect opportunity to stock up on vacation and summer reading.

 Adult Nonfiction Book Club: Tue., May 7 at 7 p.m. Is truth stranger than fiction? Is it more entertaining? Readers can find out in the Adult Nonfiction Book Club. The club meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Mary Atwood Room. Dates and book titles can be found on the website and at the Information Desk. The May 7 book discussion will be Salt: A World History by Mark Kurlansky. Copies are available at Main Desk. Registration is not required.

Middle School Book Club (Stony Brook): Wednesday, May 8 at 2 p.m.  The library book club is open to Stony Brook Middle School teens in grades 6 to 8.  Students actively participate in book discussion and hands-on activities once a month until May 2018 at the Stony Brook Middle School. This month the group will read Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend. Readers can sign-up at the Stony Brook Middle School with the school librarian, Mrs. Smith.

J.V. Fletcher Adult Book Club: Thursday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. Please join us to discuss Code Girls by Liza Mundy. Copies of the current reading selection are available for check-out at the Main Desk. New members are always welcome. No registration required.

Eat Your Blues Away with author Cheryl Major: Thursday, May 9 at 7 p.m. Come hear certified nutrition and wellness consultant Cheryl Major discuss her book, Eat Your Blues Away, about how changing her diet helped her overcome chronic depression.  Register here or call Information Services at 978-399-2304.

Teen & Tween Advisory Board Meeting: Saturday, May 11 at 3 p.m. Join the Library’s Teen and Tween Advisory Board and provide input for our Teen and Tween Summer Reading Program and support to the young adult librarian. No experience necessary, but board members must be in grades 6 and up and live in Westford, or their parent(s) must be a member of the Friends of the Library. The meeting(s) will be held in the Children’s Story Hour Room. This is a free, drop-in event. Registration not required.

Knitting Group: Monday, May 13 at 3 p.m. The informal knitting group meets in the Mary Atwood Room on the second Monday of every month from 3 to 5 p.m. AND the fourth Monday of every month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. There will not be a meeting on the fourth Monday in May due to the Memorial Day holiday. This is a drop-in program that is open to all ages. Knitters can bring their latest project and share advice and socialize with other knitters. Those with questions are asked to call Sarah Regan at 978-399-2309.

Cookbook Club: Thursday, May 16 at 7 p.m. The Cookbook Club explores cookbooks and samples new recipes. It meets on the third Thursday of each month. The May choice is King Solomon’s Table by Joan Nathan. Copies will be available for check out at the Main Desk.  Those who would like to bring a dish from the cookbook (not required to participate), are asked to contact Information Services at 978-399-2309. No registration required.

Look for the Library’s entry in the Apple Blossom Parade on Saturday, May 18. The highly anticipated annual Westford Kiwanis Sponsored Apple Blossom Parade will march along Main Street for the 51st time. Traditionally this is the event where the Library Children’s Department entry in the Parade announces the theme for their upcoming Children’s Summer Reading Program.

Official launch of the Library’s 2019 StoryWalk® at the Westford Community Garden:  Tuesday, May 21 at 10:30 a.m. Residents can help librarians hop, skip, walk, jump, and run to each page of the book Luke and the Little Seed, by Giuliano Ferri at the Westford Community Garden located at 44 Graniteville Road. After we read around the perimeter of the garden, the children will plant a seed to take home with them. This FREE program celebrates the first anniversary of the library StoryWalk®. StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont, and developed in collaboration with Kellogg Hubbard Library.

 No-Knead Bread Making with Denali Delmar: Thursday, May 30 at 6:30 p.m. Craisin pecan bread? Asiago cheese bread? Anadama bread? Residents can join us to sample these delicious breads while veteran baker Denali Delmar demonstrates how to make these and other crusty artisan loaves. Delmar has simplified the New York Times no-knead method to three steps. No mess and no kneading at all. Residents are invited to learn how to make Denali’s “no-knead miracle bread” — it’s miraculous how easy it is to make. FREE! Ages 14 and up.
