In Observance of Memorial Day the Library will be closed on Saturday, May 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday, May 27 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Library will reopen on Tuesday, May 29 at 10 a.m.

The Friends of the J. V. Library, Inc. June Book Sale is on the horizon: Friday, June 7, Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9.  A Friends Members Only Sale will be held on Friday evening from 6:30 to 9 p.m.  A Friends membership (which may be purchased at the door) is necessary for attending the Members Only Sale.  The entire public is invited to the all day Saturday sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and to the Sunday half-price extravaganza sale from 2 to 4 p.m. The June Book Sale offers the perfect opportunity to stock up on vacation and summer reading.

“A Universe of Stories” is the 2019 Children’s Summer Reading Program theme. Registration begins Tuesday, May 28 for this Friends’ funded program. Residents can purchase tickets for events and shows at the same time that you register. Some events require tickets for children, parents, and/or caregivers while others are free drop-in. Please call or visit the Youth Services Department, or check out the Children’s Summer Reading Program page on our website for more information on this exciting summer-long FUN spree.

No-Knead Bread Making with Denali Delmar: Thursday, May 30 at 6:30 p.m. Craisin pecan bread? Asiago cheese bread? Anadama bread? Residents can sample these breads while veteran baker Denali Delmar shows how they and other crusty artisan loaves are made. Denali has simplified the New York Times no-knead method to three steps. Booktalk with Mayleen and Kristina: Friday, May 31 at 1:30 p.m. or Monday, June 17 at 7 p.m.  Readers can join Mayleen and Kristina for an informal “Booktalk.” During this hour we will talk about books both old and new.  No registration required.

Maximizing Social Security with T. Jack Wang: Saturday, June 1 at 10:30 a.m. It’s one of the most important yet complicated decisions one has to make — how and when one claims her Social Security benefits. Taxpayers should avoid mistakes that can cost tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. Financial coach T. Jack Wang will review the rules, strategies, and even touch on Medicare costs and eligibility. Understanding Social Security options and lifetime benefits is critical in helping onemake informed claiming decisions. FREE. Ages 14 and up. Adult Nonfiction Book Club: Tuesday, June 4 at 7 p.m. Is truth stranger than fiction? Is it more entertaining? Readers can find out in the Adult Nonfiction Book Club. The group meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Mary Atwood Room. Dates and book titles can be found on the website and at the Information Desk. The June 4 book discussion will be One Summer: America, 1927 by Bill Bryson. Copies are available at Main Desk. No registration required.

Knitting Group: Monday, June 10 at 3 p.m. and Monday, June 24 at 6:30 p.m. This informal knitting group meets in the Mary Atwood Room on the second Monday of every month from 3 to 5 p.m. AND the fourth Monday of every month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This is a drop-in program that is open to all ages. knitters can bring their latest project and share advice and socialize with other knitters.  Westford Academy Exam Week: Monday – Thursday, June 10 to 13, from 2 to 10 p.m.

Students can study for Final Exams at the J.V. Fletcher Library. Extra desk space in the Library Meeting Room is offered, as well as FREE coffee and snacks. FREE pizza provided each night at 7 p.m., first-come-first-served until it’s gone. Extended library hours from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. are for students only with no re-entry after 9 p.m. Prompt parental pick-up required no later than 10 p.m. All materials and snacks at this FREE drop-in event are provided through the support of the Friends of the J.V. Fletcher Library.

J.V. Fletcher Adult Book Club: Thursday, June 13 at 7:30 p.m. Discussion: What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty. Copies of the current reading selection are available for check-out at the Main Desk. New members are always welcome. No registration required.

English Conversation Circle: every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Non-native speakers can practice their English conversation skills and meet new friends in a relaxed and friendly environment. Registration is not required. Those with questions are asked to call Sarah Regan at 978-399-2309.
