The Friends of the J. V. Library, Inc. June Book Sale is on the horizon: Friday, June 7, Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9.  A Friends Members Only Sale will be held on Friday evening from 6:30 to 9 p.m.  A Friends membership (which may be purchased at the door) is necessary for attending the Members Only Sale.  The entire public is invited to the all day Saturday sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and to the Sunday half-price extravaganza sale from 2 to 4 p.m. The June Book Sale offers the perfect opportunity to stock up on vacation and summer reading.

“A Universe of Stories” is the 2019 Children’s Summer Reading Program theme. Registration is ongoing for this Friends’-funded program. You can purchase tickets for events and shows at the same time that you register. Some events require tickets for children, parents, and/or caregivers while others are free and drop-in. Please call/visit the Youth Services Department, or check out the Children’s Summer Reading Program page on our website for more information on this exciting summer-long FUN spree.

“A Universe of Stories” 2019 Teen and Tween Summer Reading Program:

Registration for Teens and Tweens in grades 5 – 12 is also ongoing. All Teen and Tween events are FREE thanks to generous funding by the Friends of the J.V. Fletcher Library. Nancy and Kate will be visiting all of the schools so please bring your children to the library to register for summer reading when they ask to go to the library.  Check out the Teen and Tween Summer Reading Program page.

Westford Academy Exam Week: Monday – Thursday, June 10 to 13, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Study for Final Exams at the J.V. Fletcher Library. We offer extra desk space in the Library Meeting Room, as well as FREE coffee and snacks. FREE pizza provided each night at 7 p.m., first-come-first-served until it’s gone. Extended library hours from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. are for students only with no re-entry after 9 p.m. Prompt parental pick-up required no later than 10 p.m. All materials and snacks at this FREE drop-in event are provided through the generous support of the Friends of the J.V. Fletcher Library.

Adult Nonfiction Book Club: Tue., June 4 at 7 p.m. Is truth stranger than fiction? Is it more entertaining? Find out in the Adult Nonfiction Book Club. We meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Mary Atwood Room. Dates and book titles can be found on the website and at the information desk. Our June 4 book discussion will be One Summer: America, 1927 by Bill Bryson. Copies are available at Main Desk. No registration required.

Knitting Group: Monday, June 10 at 3 p.m. and Monday, June 24 at 6:30 p.m. Our informal knitting group meets in the Mary Atwood Room on the second Monday of every month from 3 to 5 p.m. AND the fourth Monday of every month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This is a drop-in program that is open to all ages. Bring your latest project and share advice and socialize with other knitters. If you have any questions, please call Sarah Regan at 978-399-2309.

 Westford Academy Book Club Invites Eighth Graders Wednesday, June 12 at 2:15 p.m. Blanchard Middle School and Stony Brook Middle School students in eighth grade are invited to join the Westford Academy Book Club’s final meeting of the semester. Sign-up at the Blanchard Middle School with Mrs. Brandt and at the Stony Brook Middle School with Mrs. Smith.

J.V. Fletcher Adult Book Club: Thursday, June 13 at 7:30 p.m. Please join us to discuss What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty. Copies of the current reading selection are available for check-out at the Main Desk. New members are always welcome. No registration required.

Winning College Essays with Joyce Pellino Crane: Thurs., June 20, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Writing a college essay can be the most challenging and time consuming part of completing admissions applications. Come and learn about ways to brainstorm topics and launch the essay with an interesting hook. Good writing and a well constructed story make all the difference. We’ll talk about how to start your essay, how to keep the reader reading it, and how to trust that a compelling end will come to you. Free.

Fun filled events are a museum pass away. With over 23 venues offering reduced or free admission to area and Boston museums, enjoy summer vacation like never before. Visit the New England Aquarium and Acton Discovery Museum or learn and grow at Historic New England or with the Trustees of Reservation Go Pass.  Patrons are encouraged to book early for the best dates.
