While I’m not a fan of the concept of a diet (I prefer a more permanent lifestyle eating change), some diets are so good for you, it’s as though they turn back the clock. The No Carb No Sugar diet is one of those diets. People who follow this diet look younger than they actually are, and that’s because certain diets can help your body heal inflammation and protect your telomeres. By the way, telomeres are found at the end of your chromosomes. Having longer, more intact telomeres is a prediction of a slower aging process. Telomeres, a segment of DNA, act like caps to keep chromosomes from fusing.

The No Carb No Sugar Diet can help you feel great, lose weight and get in shape based on the healthy foods you eat. Meals on this kind of diet are rich in flavonoids, which boost cell health and have antioxidant effects on the body.

When a diet is rich in colorful foods like the no carb no sugar diet is, you will notice a big difference in the way you feel. This diet is one that lasts for a specific number of days. From personal experience, I can assure you that adopting this as a lifestyle change and not merely as a passing phase has tremendous benefits.

You can change the number of days from a week to 10 days to two weeks. However, most people enjoy the difference in their body so much that they decide to make it a permanent lifestyle change rather than a temporary one. As I said before, this is what I prefer to see my people do.

On this “diet,” you choose the number of days you’re going to go carb and sugar free. The purpose behind this method is to rid your body of the negative effects of sugar consumption.

Because sugar creates a response in your brain similar to a reaction to cocaine, you have to be cleansed of it. Like cocaine, sugar affects the pleasure center of your brain, which is why you get cravings and can feel irritable when you want or even crave sugar and don’t get it.

As an aside, people always ask me which type of sugar is best; my answer is always this: sugar is sugar is sugar. To your body, it doesn’t matter if it’s cane sugar, organic honey, stevia or something else; it’s still sugar. Reducing your intake of sugar or getting it out of your diet completely is a huge step in the direction of better health, both mental and physical.

Another good move to take is to pause eating dairy foods like milk and yogurt, since both contain the sugar known as lactose. Even 1 percent milk can contain a lot of lactose. Additionally, if you eat yogurt that has fruit on the bottom that you need to stir up, you’ll be doing yourself a huge favor by cutting this out of your diet. Those yogurts are loaded with added sugar. A little know fact is that the acidophilus benefit of the yogurt culture is negated by the sugar added to fruit and flavored yogurt.

This is a great diet for people who want to lose weight and concentrate on getting a jump-start on healthy eating. To get started on this diet, however, it’s important to learn about the hidden sugars in food. This means learning how to correctly read food labels as well as understand the sugar found in many ingredients in your favorite recipes or restaurant meals. The best approach is to focus your meal plans on foods such as meat, seafood, lots of salad and fresh vegetables.

You can have eggs as an egg contains less than 1 carb. You can also eat non-starchy vegetables and certain nuts and seeds. Nuts tend to be high in fat, so eat these in moderation. By the time you’ve completed your designated time eating this way, you’ll have learned how to make better food choices and may feel so much better you may decide to adopt this as a lifestyle of eating.

With any diet, it’s important to learn to read food labels. To that end, I have developed and taught a course that’s now available in a home study version. Once you learn where to look for the truth on a package of food and what the more than 60 different names of sugar are, the odds of you making healthier choices for yourself and your family are greatly improved.

I changed my life by changing how I eat, and I know you can do it too!
