The new Library Web site and Mobile App are Live. The Library has unveiled a new website that is intuitive and simple to navigate. This initiative was funded in part by gift and grant funds and by the Friends of the J. V. Fletcher Library, Inc.

The Library also has a new mobile app that makes it easy to digitally browse the library’s collection, view checkouts, place holds, and renew items. Search for MVLC Mobile in the Apple and Android stores.

The Friends February Book Sale is on the horizon for the weekend of Friday, Feb. 7, Saturday, Feb. 8 and Sunday, Feb. 9. A Friends Members Only Sale will be held on Friday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. A Friends membership (which may be purchased at the door) is necessary for attending the preview sale. The entire public is invited Saturday for an all-day sale, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and to the special half price extravaganza on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Sunday Hours: The Library is open from 2 to 5 p.m. through April 28.

Advanced Snap Circuits and Takeaparts: Friday, Jan. 31 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. We have five exciting Snap Circuits kits to play with: RC Cars, Light, Motion, Arcade, and 3-D Illumination. Preregister online. This free program is for children in grades 3 to 5.

Lego® Club: Saturday, Feb. 1 from 2 to 3 p.m.  Come create something fun with Library Legos®. All creations will be displayed in the library until the next time we meet. Free drop-in for ages 5 and up with parent or caregiver.

Adult Nonfiction Book Club: Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. Is truth stranger than fiction? Is it more entertaining? Find out in the Adult Nonfiction Book Club, which meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Mary Atwood Hall. Dates and book titles are on the website and at the Information Desk. The Feb. 4 book will be A Truck Full of Money by Tracy Kidder. Copies are available at Main Desk. No registration required. Check out our Reading List.

 Knitting Group: Monday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. The informal knitting group meets in the Mary Atwood Room on the second Monday of every month from 3 to 5 p.m. AND the fourth Monday of every month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This is a FREE drop-in program that is open to all ages. Those who have any questions, are asked to call Sarah Regan at 978-399-2309. 

Tea from Your Garden: Thursday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.  Gardener Judith Taylor will cover a brief history of tea, how it’s made, and how to make herbal teas at home with ingredients from yards and gardens. Medicinal properties of plants will also be discussed. Participants will have the opportunity to sample some teas and make their own tea blend to try at home. FREE! J.V. Fletcher Adult Book Club: Thursday, Feb. 20 (rescheduled from Feb. 13)  at 7:30 p.m. Please join us to discuss Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult. Copies are available at the Main Desk. New members are always welcome. No registration required. Check out our Reading List.

Cookbook Club: Thursday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. The group explores cookbooks and sample new recipes. It meets on the third Thursday of the month. Our February pick is Bigger Bolder Baking by Gemma Stafford. Copies are available at the Main Desk. Those who would like to bring a dish from the cookbook (not required), are asked to call Sarah Regan at 978-399-2309. No registration required. Check out our Reading List.

J.V. Fletcher Library Participating in MBLC and Bruins PJ Drive: The J.V. Fletcher Library has once again teamed up with the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and the Boston Bruins to participate in their annual pajama drive to benefit DCF Kids and Cradles to Crayons. The PJ Drive’s goal is to collect 15,000 pairs of new pajamas for children and teens in need. The PJ Drive runs from Feb.1 through March 15. The library will be collecting new pairs of pajamas for babies, children and teens. The drop off bin is located next to the Main Desk.

Database of the Week:  eSequels. Patrons no longer have to guess at the order of a particular adult fiction series. They can search by author, title, character, location, subject, or keyword. Series are listed in order and title annotations are provided.  See newly added titles/series or find out what your favorite series author will publish next.
