United States Rep. Lori Trahan (MA-03), on June 19, recognized Sabrina Paulino, a 2020 graduate from Emmanuel College and Patient Service Representative at the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, in her Local Heroes Spotlight initiative for her dedication to helping others during the COVID-19 pandemic and for being a strong, empowering advocate for her community in Lawrence.

“Sabrina represents the promise and hope of her generation of leaders. While finishing college in the midst of this pandemic, she continued to show up to work at the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center to make sure her community has access to the health services they need to weather this public health crisis. I’m grateful to Sabrina for her resilience, courage and commitment, and I look forward to seeing what her bright future has in store,”

In her current role at GLFHC, Sabrina spends her time checking in patients, assisting them anyway she can, and providing quality administrative services. As the number of COVID-19 cases in Lawrence spiked, she continued working despite one of her parents being especially vulnerable to the virus. After each shift, Sabrina had to enter her home through her basement and shower immediately before she could see her family.

Although her interaction with her parents has been limited, Sabrina says that her work during this crisis has motivated her to start a career in nursing and continue making a difference in her community and other communities of color. While balancing her job, Sabrina has spent much of the past few months finishing up her schoolwork to graduate from Emmanuel College with a major in Sociology and a minor in Psychology Trahan will continue to spotlight heroes who, like Sabrina, have gone above and beyond to serve their community during this difficult time.
