Economic Development Funding Coming to First Middlesex District

The end of the 2019-2020 legislative session early Wednesday morning brought with it the passage of a slew of bills, including a $626 million economic development bill, An Act Enabling Partnerships for Growth.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact, particularly on small businesses, but on the economy of the Commonwealth as a whole,” said Sen. Ed Kennedy. “This bill will provide the tools and programs needed to begin the recovery.”

The bill, which now sits on Gov. Baker’s desk, includes $500,000 for economic development offices across the First Middlesex District, including:

  • $200,000 to the City of Lowell for economic development programming.
  • $100,000 to the Town of Westford for economic development programming.
  • $50,000 to the Town of Groton for economic development programming.
  • $50,000 to the Town of Dunstable for economic development programming.
  • $50,000 to the Town of Pepperell for economic development programming.
  • $50,000 to the Town of Tyngsboro for economic development programming.
