As Superintendent Bill Olsen grapples with a potential budgetary shortfall of $440,000, Ingrid Nilsson, the School Department’s Financial Director, has accepted a part-time job in the town of Harvard.

“It was the right fit for Ingrid’s life,” Olsen said, noting that the job demands kept her working on weekends and at night.

One of the largest school systems in this northwest regions, Westford has nine schools and 4,700 students.

New Superintendent

Olsen recommended to the School Committee that members bring in an interim financial director to keep things running smoothly until a new superintendent comes on board. He urged the committee members to allow the incoming superintendent to choose a permanent finance director rather than having him do it.

“I think it’s in the best interest to have the new principal take it over,” Olsen said.

Olsen has indicated he will retire at the end of the fiscal year in June.

Nilsson took over the finance director’s position about a year-and-a-half ago, in July 2019.

She could not be reached immediately for comment.
