Westford Police arrested a 35 year old man from Littleton on August 30 on charges of breaking and entering into a motor vehicle with the intent to commit a felony.

It was a motion detector that captured Robert Ponte on camera with a damaged motor vehicle belonging to a Pioneer Way resident. Ponte had broken into the motor vehicle on Pioneer Way. The homeowner’s security camera alerted him to motion in his driveway. When he checked his camera he saw Ponte inside his vehicle. The homeowner confronted Ponte who fled the area on foot.Â
Police were called and with help from Westford residents, officers caught the man at Cumberland Farms on Littleton Road.
Ponte had different denominations of bills, change and some distinguishing articles on him that could possibly have come from other motor vehicle breaks in the area, according to police.
Police are asking that residents in the Old Lowell Road area check their vehicles to see if anything is missing. They also encourage residents to check their security cameras for breaking and entering activity. Police can be reached at 978-692-2161.
These charges are allegations and Ponte is considered innocent until proven guilty.
