A large group of students and parents showed up on the town common on Sept. 29 to protest a mandate requiring masks be worn inside buildings in town.
The new rule is an outgrowth of the COVID 19 pandemic virus that gripped the country throughout the year 2020, and now presents a new challenge in the delta variant.
The directive comes from members of the Board of Health who voted on Sept. 22 in favor of a mask mandate. The mandate goes into effect Oct. 1.
“The delta virus is scary. It causes illness…Masks are not the end all and be all,” said Board of Health member Joanne Belanger. “It is one thing in a toolbox. It’s a layer…to try to get this thing under control.”
